Full Biography

Formed in Dublin in the late 1990's, mrnorth (Emmett O'Malley, Adrian Mordaunt, Oisin O'Malley, and Colin Smith) have had quite an odyssey leading up to the release of their debut record Lifesize. The four-piece, made up of two brothers, a first cousin and a next door neighbor, started playing together when they were young teens. After making some noise in Ireland, the boys left for Vicenza, Italy, where a producer was set to help them put down some tracks for a record. The band soon became local favorites and their three month trip lasted two years as they toured all over Italy and honed their sound. A chance meeting with an American manager led the band to New York City. After a year of gigging, building up a following and creating a buzz in the music industry, the band signed a record deal, and ended up in the studio with rock legend Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads, Live, No Doubt) - the result: Lifesize. mrnorth's debut record is full of emotionally driven, epic rock songs. Lifesize is complimented most by the incredible unity and tightness of the band's four members. Colin Smith's vocals punch through every song and highlight the album's accomplished lyrics. Over the last year, mrnorth have played with The Who, Bryan Adams, Van Halen, Liz Phair, Puddle of Mudd and Evanescence, Jet, and Sheryl Crow, among others, as well as a slot on Bonnaroo 2004. Audiences are constantly blown away by the charismatic singer's vocals combined with his energetic performances. Guitar player and lead vocalist Smith says that performing live is compelling because the results are instinctive and immediate. A regime change at the label prior to the album's release concerned the band enough to opt to take their album to independent label Uninhibited Records. Squire Velves (VP, Uninhibited Records) heard the album, saw a show and wanted in. For the band it was as simple as that. With opening slots for The Who, a performance at this year's Bonaroo Festival, and continued touring, mrnorth are poised to conquer the rest of the U.S., bringing their electric live shows and Smith's distinctive voice to a town near you.
