The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

In 1901, Emil von Behring was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on serum therapy, particularly for its use in the treatment of diphtheria. The Nobel Prize in Medicine has subsequently highlighted a number of important discoveries including penicillin, genetic engineering and blood-typing.

2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine goes to Harald zur Hausen, Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier.

2007 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine The Medicine Prize has been awarded to Mario R. Capecchi, Martin J. Evans and Oliver Smithies for "discoveries of principles for introducing specific gene modifications in mice by the use of embryonic stem cells".

2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine Andrew Z. Fire and Craig C. Mello discovered a fundamental mechanism for controlling the flow of genetic information. Read more about the 2006 Nobel Laureates here.
