The
Parliamentary
Bulletin

Issue 2, February 2004

Welcome to issue two of the CRE Parliamentary Bulletin.  In it you will find links to major CRE announcements, press releases and statements.  Just click on the links to find out more on any particular subject or issue.  The Bulletin is published monthly but we will also be issuing alerts and briefings in the interim period on issues of a time-sensitive nature.

Legislative update

  • Higher Education Finance Bill
The CRE's statement on the Higher Education Bill is available on request
  • Housing Bill
    Proposed clauses
We are proposing a number of additional clauses to the Housing Bill in relation to the provision of sites for Gypsies and Travellers.
    Early Day Motion (79)
We would also urge you to sign the Early Day Motion (79), calling upon the Government to introduce a statutory duty on local authorities to provide and facilitate Gypsy and Traveller sites.  The motion has cross party support and recognises that an increase in Traveller sites will benefit both the Traveller and non-Traveller communities. The motion is also supported by a wide range of pressure groups and organisations representing a broad range of community interests - see here.
