Radio mast: News releases

News feeds from this site

Our news feeds service makes it easy to stay up to date with news from the CRE, without having to keep visiting this website.

News feeds are special web pages that can be read automatically by software applications (usually called 'news readers' or 'aggregators') and also by some newer web browsers, including Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox. The news feed is automatically updated as soon as a new piece of content is published.

News feeds normally contain a headline, some introductory text, and a link to the article on the website. Clicking on this link in your browser or news reader takes you to the CRE web page on which the full content can be found.

What feeds can I subscribe to?

We currently offer the following feeds:

What do I need to do to receive these feeds?

Viewing feeds through your web browser

If you use Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or version 7 of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, you can receive our news feeds directly through your browser.

First, select the feed you want to subscribe to by clicking on one of the orange buttons above.

If you're using Internet Explorer, this will take you to a new web page showing the latest stories from that news feed. Click on the Subscribe to this feed link in the yellow box. Click OK when the dialogue box appears.

Firefox users need only click on the OK button when the Add live bookmark dialogue box appears.

Setting up a news feed in the Internet Explorer 7 browser

Setting up a news feed in the Internet Explorer 7 browser. This allows you to check for new content on the CRE site through your web browser, even if you're viewing another website at the time.

You have now suscribed to the feed, and can view the latest stories at any time by clicking on Live Bookmarks (in Firefox), or the Favourites Centre button (in Internet Explorer 7). The Opera browser has a dedicated Feeds button on its main menu bar instead.

Receiving feeds in a news reader

News readers, or 'aggregators', are small software programs that automatically check news feeds and let you read any new articles that have been added.

There are many different readers available, and some work in different ways than others. Bloglines and Google Reader, for example, are web-based and are accessed like a normal web page, while others, like Newsgator, are downloadable applications that allow you to view news feeds through email software, such as Outlook.

The process of setting up a feed differs from one news reader to another, but it usually involves copying the web address of the feed from the address bar on your browser, and pasting it into the reader.

Some of the most popular readers currently available are listed below:
