There's nothing new about the idea of people coming from abroad to live and work in Britain. It's been going on for hundreds, even thousands, of years. Almost everyone in Britain today is either an immigrant, or descended from immigrants.

In this section of the website, we look at the long history of migration in Britain, and explore some of the many different reasons why people have chosen to make it their home. We examine how aspects of our daily lives - from the beliefs and values we hold, the languages we speak and even the food we eat - make us different, and similar, to others.

We will also talk here about integration - something that not only lies at the heart of the CRE's work, but has in recent times become a hotly-debated issue. In these pages, you can find out more about the our vision of a fair and integrated Britain, and what we are doing to help make it a reality.
