MPAA RATING: R for some disturbing behavior, sexuality, nudity and some language

Starring Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, Derek Jacobi, and Ayelet Zurer

Adam Resurrected follows former Berlin magician and circus impresario Adam Stein, an enthralling, enigmatic patient at the Seizling Institute, a remote Israeli rehabilitation outpost for Holocaust survivors. Entertainer, clairvoyant, sophisticate and lothario, Stein veers from brilliance to eroticism, horror and madness, with flashbacks to the physical and psychological demoralization he endured under Commandant Klein in the Stellring death camp. Stein appears to have everyone stymied and overawed, but an unusual new patient seems to have the magnetic power to break him free of the grip of his relentless torment. (Bleiberg Entertainment)

One cannot recommend this film strongly enough.

The Hollywood Reporter Kirk Honeycutt
The madness of Holocaust survivors is here played mainly for dark comedy. The film's dazzling central performance in a mental institute finds Jeff Goldblum in the role of his career.

The Onion (A.V. Club) Nathan Rabin
In a stunning lead performance, Goldblum stars as a brilliant, apolitical jester.

Variety Todd McCarthy
Largely set in two of the least appetizing locations imaginable, a concentration camp and an insane asylum, this is a rigorously made film that does almost nothing to invite the viewer into its world.

Los Angeles Times Gary Goldstein
In a less competitive year, Jeff Goldblum would have had a shot at an Oscar nod for his performance in Adam Resurrected.

50
Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman
The director, Paul Schrader, tries for cleansing audacity, but ends up too close to farce.

The New York Times Stephen Holden
The film is so flat that it leaves you wondering if Mr. Kaniuk's book is ultimately untranslatable to the screen.

New York Post Kyle Smith
Goldblum's wobbly German accent and the staginess of the script doom this effort by Paul Schrader ("American Gigolo").
