Many U.S. roads, bridges and tolls are decades old and in need of critical repair, as shown by the 2007 deadly collapse of a major Minnesota bridge. Local governments don't have funding required to do the necessary maintenance and upgrades. In 2009, estimates said it would take more than $2.2 trillion over five years to address the many dangers.
