Divine Services at St. Vladimir's

When to Attend

At Saint Vladimir's, Divine Services are conducted in English on major feast days of the Church, as well as every weekend, and all sincere folk are invited to attend. Regular weekly services include well attended vigil services at 6:00 P.M. every Saturday evening. The reading of the Hours begins at approximately 9:30 every Sunday morning, and following the Hours, the Divine Liturgy commences, usually shortly after 10:00 AM. In addition to these regularly schedule services, you may refer to the latest schedule bulletin for information on all upcoming services and events.

How to Prepare

Please be advised that it is customary for women to cover their heads in the Church, and is required that everyone to wear modest clothing - no bare arms or legs! Women stand on the left side of the church, and men stand on the right - children should stand with one of their parents. This is in keeping with the traditions of Holy Orthodoxy, and these rules, like everything else in the Church, are there for good reasons.

What to Expect

St. Vladimir's serves according to the traditional Russian Orthodox Slavonic rubric, but services are conducted mostly in English. We use the traditional vocabulary ("Thees and Thous") and grammar of the English language with the intent of maintaining the dignity and solemnity of the Divine Services. At every service, we commemorate the senior hieararch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, Bishop Agathangel of Tavra and Odessa, and Bishop Andronik of Richmond Hill, New York.
