Indie Renegades to Rock for Cassavetes

They're gonna be pissed when he doesn't show

On October 31st, Better Looking Records will issue the soundtrack to Songs for Cassavetes, a documentary on independent music and a modest film festival success which focuses largely on the Bay Area/Olympia/Portland DIY music scene circa '96-'97. Including live recordings and rare material from bands such as Unwound, Sleater-Kinney, the Peechees, Some Velvet Sidewalk, Tullycraft and Henry's Dress, the soundtrack covers a lot of Pacific Northwest ground. To throw everyone's sense of geography off, DC's the Make Up contribute as well. Is it even necessary to mention that K Records impresario Calvin Johnson is all over this thing?

The Songs for Cassavetes soundtrack features twenty tracks of "classic indie rock anthems," exclusive tracks, live performances, and interviews. If you want to know what the indie rock analogue to Boston's "More than a Feeling" is, you're gonna have to put that lighter down and give this thing a listen.
