The Postal Service to Release New Single

According to the good folks at Sub Pop, a third single from The Postal Service's staggeringly successful debut album, Give Up, will be coming out February 8th, 2005. We presume that the date was picked because the 8th of the month is traditionally a lucky day on which to sing about nuclear war and grotesque cancer deaths. That's right: "We Will Become Silhouettes" is the group's new public face. The single's contents closely mirror the content of earlier singles for "Such Great Heights" and "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight", shoring up the album track with a new song and two remixes:

01 We Will Become Silhouettes
02 Be Still My Heart
03 We Will Become Silhouettes (Matthew Dear remix)
04 Nothing Better (Styrofoam remix)

Ben Gibbard sang "Couches in Alleys" on Styrofoam's recent Nothing's Lost and helped produce some of the album's other tracks, so a little tit-for-tat comes as no surprise. Other remixer Matthew Dear is well-known to electronic music fans for his jumpy, clicky house music, most recently showcased on this summer's mini-album Backstroke.

The Postal Service were scheduled to play a short set at the Postmaster General's National Executive Conference on November 17th as part of their name-sharing deal with the USPS, but we have yet to hear so much as a setlist or leaked MP3, let alone confirmations of rumors about a mosh pit forming among the gathered postal executives. Which we just made up. Again, if you're lucky enough to possess a recording of this event, we obviously want to know.
