Saddle Creek's Slowdown Venue Opens Tonight

Boy, do we wish we were artsy, dispossessed, misunderstood teenagers bumming around Omaha right about now.

It seems Saddle Creek Records' civic project dreams have become a reality, as tonight marks the grand opening of Slowdown, the Omaha-situated music venue owned and operated by the fine people at SC. Named in tribute to proto-Saddle Creek act Slowdown Virginia (which included a pre-Cursive Tim Kasher), Slowdown the venue is in fact part of a larger, previously reported two-building complex the label's been actively developing over the past year or so.

According to an Omaha World-Herald report, Slowdown, Saddle Creek's new offices, the Film Streams art house theater (set to open in July), and artists' living spaces occupy the first building. The second, due for completion in late summer, will include apartments, a restaurant, a coffeehouse, and, because every silver cloud has a dark lining, an Urban Outfitters.

The whole teenage kicks factory is technically owned and managed by Saddle Creek's Robb Nansel and Jason Kulbel, and it has the idealistic youths within us all high-fiving in earnest.

Following a private show last night from Bright Eyes, 470-capacity Slowdown will open its doors to the public tonight with performances from Art in Manila, Little Brazil, Domestica, Now, Archimedes!, Flowers Forever, and Conor's new favorite band Cap Gun Coup. Saturday has Neva Dinova, Ladyfinger, and others taking to the shiny new Slowdown stage. Click here for details.
