Deep Thought

For the $78 billion dollars Paulson overpaid banks in TARP 1.0, the U.S. could have bailed out California, twice. (Avoiding this bullshit.)

Ruth Bader Ginsberg: Pancreatic Cancer

2/5/09, 2:22 pm EST

Left-leaning Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg had surgery today for pancreatic cancer — which is nasty stuff.

Ginberg’s was caught early in a cancer screening — she’s already a survivor of colon cancer — which is rare for a cancer that often goes undetected into its advanced stages. The AP is reporting Ginsberg’s 1-cm diameter tumor was removed surgically, the most hopeful course of treatment.

Even so, the 5 year survival rate is only about 15 percent.

Daschle was, according to one source, a candidate to become Obama’s chief of staff. Instead he maneuvered himself to spearhead Obama’s healthcare policy — both as secretary of HHS and as Obama’s in-White-House healthcare czar — the only Obama appointee who would have had cabinet and super-cabinet status.

Daschle will, I’m sure, continue to play a key role as a sounding board for Obama. But he will not be the pillar of domestic policy Obama clearly envisioned:
