Aphex Twin Returns... As Analord!

You can call him Richard D. James. You can call him Aphex Twin. You can call him AFX, Brad Strider, or Polygon Window. And now you can call him Analord, too. But don't call him a plasticky pop doll: His latest anti-commercial (or is that... hyper-commercial?) release continues his storied tradition of gleefully blurring the line between groundbreaking genius and insufferable assholishness.

We're speaking, of course, of the launch of the Analord series, which begins with Analord 10, a ludicrously expensive two-song vinyl 12-inch, packaged with a limited-edition pocket binder to hold future volumes. If it weren't already sold out from his Rephlex label's website, it would set you back £39.99, or about $76-- which works out to, like, six bucks per each of its 13 minutes. Of course, that price ought to feel like a bargain once eBay hounds get the scent of it. The other nine volumes will reportedly dribble out over the first half of this year; Rephlex is offering a reserve list for those who missed out on this one.

As for the music, Billboard reports that it "is said to heavily utilize James' unrivaled collection of analog synthesizers, drum machines and keyboards." You know, unlike the rest of his stuff. We're already cooking up something more descriptive for our "tracks" (f/k/a We Are The World) section-- although we find we're a bit paranoid about giving exact dates lately. For some reason!
