Prefuse 73, Aesop Rock Remix Dr. Octagon
Kool Keith isn’t content with being a little loopy all by himself, so he’s trying to make the rest of us crazy as well by surrounding the June 27 release of The Return of Dr. Octagon with the greatest possible amount of mystery and complexity.
The newest twist in the saga of the greatest doo-doo rapper alive is the release of a digital comic accompanied by remixes of material off the new album. According to a press release, the comic, the first episode of which is being released today, will feature illustrations, written blurbs serving as "chapters" in the ongoing story, and streaming mp3s in each of its eight weekly installments leading up to the release of the album. And at the current rate of exchange between Earth currency and whatever they use on Jupiter, all of these things are being offered for free.
On the musical side of things, the project will feature remixes by Aliens, Kid Loco, Cassettes Won't Listen, DJ ESE, and Catchdubs, with other potential contributors including Aesop Rock, Prefuse 73, Her Space Holiday, and Spank Rock. However, today's inaugural episode will eschew remixes in favor of a 20+ minute mixtape sampler of music from the album. All of these tracks will only be released as downloads with the comic, which you can access by visiting music.download.com, soundslam.com, IGN.com, or Audible Treats. Wild and crazy!
