Strong in a proud tradition

Diageo Ireland is an innovative and dynamic company. It is also proud of its rich traditions and history.

Diageo is a relatively new company. It was created by the merger in 1997 of Guinness plc and Grand Metropolitan plc, two of the world’s best-known drinks companies.

Despite this, and its emphasis on innovation, Diageo has roots in Ireland that go back more than 200 years. Its Smithwick’s brewery was established in Kilkenny in 1710. St. Francis Abbey Brewery is now the oldest operational brewery in Ireland.

Guinness 1759

The St. James’s Gate Guinness brewery in Dublin dates back to 1759. By 1799 it was the largest brewery in Ireland.

Guinness on draught as we now know it was launched in the 1950s and has been backed by a series of popular and memorable advertising campaigns.

Over 30 years ago Baileys Original Irish Cream was developed, creating an entirely new drink and a new market for Diageo. It is now sold in over 130 countries worldwide.

At Diageo we continue to innovate and expand our product and brand range, supported by our track record in this area.
