GameZone
Fun, shallow gameplay with cool 3D stages, cheap enemies and a fair amount of repetition.

Game Chronicles
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is a fairly decent DS platformer and action game, but because of its linear and somewhat shallow design, as well as a number of minor flaws, it doesn’t quite make it past that.

Nintendojo
Dawn of the Dragon may be lacking the polish and spark of big name DS titles, but it’s a solid time-waster.

IGN
Activision, if you're continuing the Spyro series for 2009, give these guys one more chance to smooth out the rough edges, because there's a lot of promise and potential in this year's game that just needs a bit more tweaking for it to work properly.

Cheat Code Central
If you are a Spyro enthusiast, then Dawn of the Dragon definitely delivers all the platforming action you are used to, and you probably won't be disappointed. But if you are looking for something more than just the usual grind, you may want to leave this Dragon on the shelf.

Pocket Gamer UK
The Legend of Spyro trilogy finishes on a high note. It's imperfect, but highly enjoyable, lacking only polish and length.
50
NintendoWorldReport
The decision to focus on the superficialities of visuals and voice work rather than gameplay defines Dawn of the Dragon as a work of style over substance.

Official Nintendo Magazine UK
It is, and always has been, a horribly vanilla platformer with very little soul to it. [Christmas 2008, p.103]

Once you beat the game (few hours at best), there's no reason to return, other than to torture yourself further. That said, unless you're a masochist, avoid The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon.
