The 2009 Coachella Lineup: It's Here!
Here it is, the poster for Coachella 2009, taking place April 17-19 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, California
Wow, it's late. I need to go to sleep.
UPDATE: OK, now that I'm semi-coherent, some thoughts, below the poster:
-- Strong lineup, as usual, with a few surprises. Leonard Cohen is a great get, given that this is only his second announced U.S. show in 15 years. (Weird that he's billed below Franz Ferdinand, and as high as Conor Oberst, Beirut, the Black Keys, and Girl Talk, though.) Paul McCartney as a headliner should draw a massive crowd, even to an expensive festival in the middle of the desert, during a recession. The Killers and the Cure aren't particularly adventurous bill-toppers, but hey, both are pretty ideal festival bands. I'm not sure how well those non-McCartney days will sell, though. I mean, I'm totally stoked that Throbbing Gristle is playing, but are they really going to draw the same numbers as Morrissey?
-- My Bloody Valentine surely would have been a headliner last year, but with the shock-and-awe of their comeback tour already a distant memory, it's understandable why they've moved down a notch. Still, maybe this means another MBV American tour is in the works? Or--pleasepleaseplease--a new album?
-- Hey, Amy Winehouse is still alive! And playing music!
-- Putting Band of Horses and Fleet Foxes next to each other on the poster is kinda funny. If only My Morning Jacket were playing this year, they could have filled out the rest of the line.
-- Superchunk!
-- What the hell is Shephard Fairey going to do? Draw pictures of Obama while playing a keyboard with his feet?
