Chris Brown Arrested for Attack, Possibly on Rihanna
Chris Brown is not so cute anymore. The Los Angeles Times reports that the R&B/teenpop singer is out on bail right now and facing charges of making criminal threats, stemming from a Saturday night incident that may or may not have involved his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna.
UPDATE: TMZ reports that the crime report lists Rihanna's real name, Robyn Fenty, as the victim.
According to the L.A. Times, Los Angeles police say that Brown and an unidentified woman got into an argument in a rented Lamborghini around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday night in the Hancock Park section of Los Angeles. When the argument spilled out into the street, a witness called 911. By the time police arrived at the scene, the Times reports that Brown was gone. The Times quotes a police statement saying that the woman "suffered visible injuries," and identified Brown as her attacker. Police haven't released the woman's name yet, but it's been widely speculated that Rihanna is the woman in question.
Both Brown and Rihanna had been scheduled to perform at last night's Grammy Awards ceremony, but both canceled their performances Sunday afternoon. The Associated Press reports that Grammy organizers had to scramble to find last-minute replacements for both, which is how that Al Green/Justin Timberlake/Boyz II Men/Keith Urban clusterfuck ended up happening.
The Times reports that Brown turned himself into police yesterday evening, accompanied by his lawyer and a private investigator. He was gone from the station by 9 p.m., after posting $50,000 bail.
The Times quotes Police Sgt. Bridget Pickett as saying, "The exact charge was criminal threats and it is going to be investigated as a criminal threats investigation. There may be domestic violence charges added later, but that will be up to the district attorney’s office."
