New Music: Wavves: Various Songs (Live in Brooklyn at the Market Hotel) [MP3s]

The swell of hype behind Nathan Williams' two-man noise-pop outfit Wavves is about chest-high right now (I'm told that's a surfer's term-- hey, dude is from San Diego) and last weekend he played his first shows in New York City. The New York Times was impressed by Saturday night's show at Less Artists More Condos in the West Village, and Friday night at the Market Hotel in Brooklyn NYCTaper, whom we mentioned not to long ago reagarding an Animal Collective show, was there, Neumanns in hand. Quality is damn impressive considering how much distortion and reverb can go into Wavves' songs (though from the evidence here, that element of his sound is played down a bit live, which also suits him). Look for video this set soon on an episode of Pitchfork Live.
