Justice NOT Producing Next Red Hot Chili Peppers LP
Late last week, the world wide rumor mill was all hot and bothered by the supposed "news" that squelchy French dance act Justice had been pegged to produce the next LP from California funk-rock institution Red Hot Chili Peppers. All this seemed to spring from a story in The Sun and a photo of Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with Justice's familiar cross symbol at a Lakers game.
It seemed like strange timing for the announcement, seeing as it's been but a couple months since Kiedis himself broke the news to Rolling Stone that the Chili Peppers were effectively on leave through the next year or so. And strange timing it would have been-- had it been true. According to Mixmag.net, Justice is not producing the next Red Hot Chili Peppers album...at least not right now.
Mixmag reached out to Ed Banger label head Pedro "Busy P" Winter to clarify Justice's involvement (or lack thereof) in the project. "This is what actually happened: I was recently in touch with Anthony Kiedis by phone. He wanted Justice to perform at a festival he's curating in the U.S. He said 'Justice is the best album of the year.' So I sent him some Ed Banger goodies and last week we discovered this amazing photo of him and Diddy at a Lakers game. I've been saying for a while that my dream is to see Justice producing albums for other artists like Justin Timberlake or the Chili Peppers." What good label boss worth their salt wouldn't dream of such a thing?
Though the Chili Peppers, as we've mentioned, aren't up to a whole lot anytime soon, Anthony's New American Music Union Festival hits Pittsburgh on August 8-9. Justice won't be playing the fest, however, as they're busy touring the world this summer.
