Ten Canadian artists are closer to winning the Polaris Music Prize (and its accompanying $20,000) with today's announcement of the prize's short list. Full-lengths from Stars, Black Mountain, Caribou, the Weakerthans, Basia Bulat, Plants and Animals, Kathleen Edwards, and Holy Fuck made the cut. The complete short list is below.

According to a CBC.ca report, Polaris will announce the winner of its third annual prize on September 29 at a gala at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre. Previous victors include Final Fantasy and, for some reason, Patrick Watson.
