Hats off to Sonic Youth. Over a quarter century on, and they're still shaking things up. Just get a load of Thurston Moore in the photo above and the clip below, (playfully) rampaging through the press pit during the noise freakout on "Silver Rocket". What a dude!
SY were playing Battery Park on U.S. Independence Day (July 4) as part of the River to River Festival. The other big news, of course, was the reemergence of New Jersey's wildly influential and much-loved Feelies, who opened for Sonic Youth and drew ovations on par with those directed toward the indie rock giants.
The Feelies have returned to hibernation for now, but Sonic Youth have a handful of summer dates still on the docket and another round of SYR on the way.
