Brian Eno Not Touring With David Byrne After All
America-- and indeed, the world-- is waiting for news of the previously hinted at David Byrne/Brian Eno tour, and now it appears we've finally got some. Though maybe not quite the news we were hoping for.
The My Life in the Bush of Ghosts BFFs have slyly trickled word of three dates onto the interwebs thus far, each with some variation on the handle "Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno". The first hits Atlanta on September 20, and the third descends on Santa Barbara, California October 4 [via Brooklyn Vegan].
As for the second? Why, it's Byrne's previously reported appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival, which now carries a "Songs of..." tag on the festival site.
Sticklers for details, however, will note one pretty essential point of ambiguity at play here: despite a Ticketmaster listing slip-up that specifically mentions "with Brian Eno", Eno will not actually be playing any of these shows, according to a Billboard.com update on an erroneous previous report.
Instead, it seems Byrne alone will roll through Ghosts jams and Eno-touched Talking Heads tracks at these gigs. And hey, that's still quite a treat. More Byrne dates are expected soon.
As for that "electronic gospel" record Byrne and Eno are apparently working up for a release before the end of the year? Billboard.com points us to a "webdiary" entry from collaborator/session man Leo Abrahams, who indicates the album is currently being mixed.
David Byrne "Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno" dates:
09-20 Atlanta, GA - Chastain Park Amphitheatre
09-26 Austin, TX - Zilker Park (Austin City Limits Festival)
10-04 Santa Barbara, CA - Arlington Theatre
