Xiu Xiu Split 7" With High Places, Plan Photo Project
That David Horvitz sure does take a lot of pictures. The gentleman behind the Xiu Xiu and Sunset Rubdown Polaroid projects and Aagoo Records' "David Horvitz 7" Picture Disc Series" never turns down an opportunity to get his emulsion on. And between both a brand new split single from Xiu Xiu and High Places and a really ambitious project in conjunction with Xiu Xiu's forthcoming tour, dude may have a hell of a time finding a moment for any shut-eye amidst all his shutterbuggery.
First up is Aagoo's new Xiu Xiu/High Places split 7", out now in a limited edition of 700 in black and 300 in white. The disc finds Jamie Stewart's kooky crew turning in "Kitten Revolution", a B-side from the Women as Lovers sessions. High Places offer up "Oceanus", a brand new take on a tune that originally appeared on a compilation in an earlier version. The Xiu Xiu track is available in physical form on this set and this set only, while this version of the High Places track is completely exclusive to the picture disc. What's more, each and every one of the singles comes with an original Polaroid from Horvitz himself.
If 1,000 pictures sounds like a lot, Horvitz is really outdoing himself once he and Xiu Xiu hit the road in August. Bring a disposable camera and a self-addressed stamped envelope to any of the August/September Xiu Xiu shows, and Horvitz will fill that thing up with photos and mail it back to you. You'll have to deliver it to the photo lab yourself, of course, but for your efforts, you get a mess of original Horvitz photos. Throw in $20, and Horvitz will take ten of the photos based on your specific requests. And if you're not gonna make it to the show, you can mail the camera and stamps to David directly, or Paypal him $35 and he'll make it happen for you. Details here.
Your first chance to lay your camera on David comes August 14 in L.A. when Xiu Xiu kick off their tour at Echoplex. As for High Places, their recent compilation 03/07 - 09/07 arrived in physical form this week thanks to new label Thrill Jockey, and their debut LP is due September 23. On the live front, they've got a couple quick festival appearances before heading out anew once summer's up. Many of those dates find them tangled up with Baltimore's Ponytail.
