Jonny Greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Receiver gets West Coast premiere
Radiohead, Clap Your Hands Guys Team for Soundtrack

Not to be outdone by his brother Jonny's soundtrack work on There Will Be Blood and Bodysong, Radiohead's Colin Greenwood has stepped to the plate to lay some sounds on a soundtrack of his own. The elder Greenwood helped perform the music for Alex Karpovsky's birding flick Woodpecker, according to the MySpace page of that music's composer, James Lavino [via At Ease]. Other musical contributions come courtesy of Lavino himself and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah brothers Lee and Tyler Sargent. A dude from Radiohead and two guys from CYHSY, together at last!

The Woodpecker soundtrack hit digital retailers earlier this month, while the film, which concerns a pair of dudes in search of the once-thought-to-be-extinct ivory-billed woodpecker (yes, the very same one Sufjan wrote a song about), has been making the festival rounds since March.

Meanwhile, Colin's brother Jonny's acclaimed orchestral composition Popcorn Superhet Receiver will strike again next month. Popcorn originally debuted back in 2005, went on to win a British Composer Award in 2006, and finally made its Stateside premiere back in January of this year. Now it's headed to the U.S. West Coast for the very first time, thanks once again to the fine folks behind the Wordless Music Series.

The Bay Area's Magik*Magik Orchestra will have the pleasure of bringing Popcorn to the people at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre on August 21. Also on the bill? Oh, just some stuff from such totally obscure Greenwood contemporaries as Arvo Pärt and John Adams.

Wordless Music promises "surprise guests", and Radiohead will be in the Bay Area on August 22 for their Outside Lands Festival appearance, so you infer from that what you will.

In other news from Jonny & the Radioheadz, hey, remember that pre-Lollapalooza warm-up gig Radiohead were supposed to play tonight at the Windy City's Chicago Theatre? You don't? Well, no matter, because it isn't happening anyway. According to a report on the Chicago Sun-Times blog of Jim DeRogatis, Radiohead have nixed the little charity show they had been planning for this evening. The reason? Thom Yorke's not feeling so hot.

Well rest up Thom! I want to be dazzled tomorrow night.
