Tortoise Bring Standards Back to Vinyl

Tortoise Bring Standards Back to Vinyl

Upon its release in 2001, Pitchfork contributor Matt LeMay called Standards, the fourth LP from Chicago post-rock standard-bearers Tortoise, "by far the most intense, compelling, and memorable Tortoise has released to date."

Shame, then, that a record on the order of Standards has been unavailable on vinyl for three years-- nearly half its life. Now your needle's got another chance at getting reacquainted with Standards, as the band's longtime label Thrill Jockey have just reissued the set on wax.

The new Standards arrives on red vinyl in a limited edition of 1,000. The LP will be slipped inside a heavy-duty silkscreened PVC sleeve and an "artworked" inner sleeve, and will include a download for MP3s of the whole shebang. It's available now via the Thrill Jockey site, and will be hitting stores on September 9.

As previously reported, Tortoise have a handful of tour dates to last them through the summer, including another revisit of a back catalog gem. They'll close out their current itinerary with a stop at ATP New York, where they'll perform Millions Now Living Will Never Die in its entirety.
