Slint's "Good Morning Captain" Becomes Kids' Book

Slint's Spiderland closer "Good Morning Captain" is a lot of things: brilliant, innovative, haunting, cathartic. But children's book fodder? Not high on the list.

The moody shipwreck narrative that wraps the post-rock landmark features lines like "blood stained the icy wall of the shore" and that blood-curdling shriek of "I MISS YOU!!!". You know, stuff that runs just a tad scarier than oh, The Monster at the End of This Book.

But that didn't stop cool dad David Stack from turning "Good Morning Captain" into a fantastical maritime-themed bedtime story, minus a bit of the PG-13 stuff. Stack's book is available right this instant as a free-to-download PDF, and in physical form from right here.

Sweet dreams!
