Chad VanGaalen Pilots Soft Airplane on New Album

Chad VanGaalen has certainly been putting time in down in the basement of his Calgary pad. He produced the rangy debut full-length from his fellow Calgarians in Women and now, VanGaalen has emerged from the bottom floor with Soft Airplane, his third album and the follow-up to 2006's Skelliconnection.

The 13-track set, featuring VanGaalen's arsenal of handmade instruments and put to tape on a mess of analog machines, is due from Sub Pop in the U.S. and Flemish Eye in the Canada on September 9. The vinyl version (on Flemish Eye) features two bonus tracks. And if you pre-order it from either label, you get a bonus CD-R featuring three unreleased songs, including a new song and two "one-man-band versions" of Soft Airplane tracks. But you better hurry-- September 9 is tomorrow, and the pre-order stops being pre- on release date.

It all kinda makes you a little sheepish about that beer pong table in your own basement, no?
