Is that Carl "AC" Newman character a songwritin' sonofagun? Guilty as charged. The New Pornographers frontman and occasional solo artist will temporarily ditch his supergroup for a new self-styled effort titled Get Guilty. The follow-up to 2004's The Slow Wonder is tentatively due in January from Matador.

Speaking to Spinner last month [via Brooklyn Vegan], Newman said that he was already in the process of mixing the disc. He also told Spinner that the album features Jon Wurster of Superchunk and the Mountain Goats on drums and Nicole Atkins (of Nicole Atkins and the Sea) lending some vocals. Oh, and once all that's done, he says he plans to head write back into that brain of his to start working up the next New Pornographers album.

Newman's burst of prolificacy will hit a roadbump or two through the next several months, as the Pornographers do a handful of North American dates and head down under in October. The Stanley Park Singing Exhibition, organized by the Pornos and featuring sets by the Pornos, Neko Case, Destroyer, recent additions Black Mountain, Deerhoof, Andrew Bird, and quite a few others, hits Vancouver next weekend.
