Hold Steady Line Up Fall Tour With Drive-By Truckers
Fists will be raised. Riffs will be swapped. And damn if beers won't be sold at an unusually brisk pace, as the Hold Steady and Drive-By Truckers link up for a monthlong North American sojourn this fall they're calling the "Rock and Roll Means Well Tour." The two bands will spend their time together switching up headlining slots-- details below.
This isn't the first time the Hold Steady's path has crossed with the Truckers. Trucker Patterson Hood lent some vocals to Stay Positive 's "Navy Sheets", and in a press release announcing the tour, Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn says, "Seeing the Drive-By Truckers on the Southern Rock Opera tour was instrumental to me wanting to start a band and play music again. That band is the Hold Steady. This tour brings it full circle, and it will be a pleasure and an honor to be able to share a stage with the Truckers. We're gonna have a really good time."
Just a slightly better fit than the Counting Crows thing, ain't it?
Despite this welcome show of intra-band unity, Hold Steady guitarist Tad Kubler got himself into a bit of hot water on the internet over the weekend following an interview with BBC's 6Music. Speaking about Radiohead and their recent In Rainbows blitz, Kubler opined, "I think they've lost the plot. What are they doing? Where are they going? What's happening? I don't get it any more. They lost me. I still appreciate what they're doing, or what they're trying to do. But I think they're trying too hard not to be Radiohead. That seems a little ridiculous to me."
He went on, "I like them as a rock band, all the buttons and sequencing and stuff like that I don't really care for. I'm a fan of rock music and what they're doing now I don't think is very good. When you have that kind of money, you can put on a great performance regardless of what you do. If you can't go out and pick up your instruments and play a good show, that doesn't do it for me. I don't have any interest in that."
He then talked slightly less smack about Muse and praised Oasis for being "earnest" and "honest," but this being the internet, people are less inclined to care about nice things people have to say.
Regardless of whether or not you agree with Mr. Kubler's assessment of Radiohead, you've gotta admit, he's hardly the only one with a negative opinion on the matter.
