Chrissie Hynde Fronts New Pretenders on New Album

This fall, the Pretenders will return with their ninth studio album and first since 2002's Loose Screw. The record is called Break Up the Concrete, and it comes out via Shangri-La Music on October 7.

Called a "roots album" in the press materials, Break Up the Concrete features band leader Chrissie Hynde fronting an entirely new group of musicians. Four new dudes pretending to be the Pretenders...does that count as irony?

The iTunes edition of Break Up comes with bonus tracks "Tequila" and "Can't Help Falling in Love", while those who preorder from iTunes will get an additional bonus track called "977".

Catch the Pretenders sharing a bill with the Hold Steady (!) September 19 at Baltimore's Sonar as part of Noise in the Basement.
