Otis Redding Live! in London and Paris Set Due
In the spring of 1967, the killer roster of the legendary Stax/Volt imprint took to Europe for a much-celebrated tour. A young man by the name of Otis Redding happened to make the trip alongside his labelmates that spring, and the entirety of two performances from the trek will find their way to CD tomorrow (September 23) thanks to Stax.
The set, entitled Otis Redding Live! in London and Paris, has the singer's formidable pipes and gigantic stage presence matched by the musical accompaniment of Booker T. & the MGs and horn players from Stax's original house band the Mar-Keys. Both performances, presented here in their full running order for the first time, were set to tape by producer Tom Dowd back in 1967 and mixed from the original multi-track tapes by Stephen A. Hart.
