Jay Reatard Dishes on Full-Length Matador Debut

This just in from the Department of the Obvious: Jay Reatard ain't slowing down anytime soon. With five Matador 7"s and a pre-2008 singles comp already on shelves this year (and already off shelves, in the case of the limited edition 7"s), a sixth 7" and Matador singles comp on the way, and upcoming tour dates galore, Mr. Reatard is-- naturally-- busy recording his next album. In his dining room, no less.

The proper follow-up to 2006's initially slept-on Blood Visions will apparently be "entirely different" from its predecessor, if we believe the words Jay himself uttered to Pitchfork's Nitsuh Abebe in a recent Pitchfork.tv interview.

The complete interview won't hit Pitchfork.tv until Monday, September 8, but in the meantime you can chew on this tasty excerpt. To hear Jay discuss the creative freedom that comes with flying solo, his love for kiwi pop, and (gasp!) "growing up," just click the little white triangle down there:

And that's not all. Matador tells us that songs set to appear on the new record include "Faking It", "Tiny Little Home", "Fail/Try", and "Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh", plus a new recording of "Always Wanting More", which you may remember from Jay's third Matador 7".

Jay's also been recording anonymously with some folks, though naturally he's keeping mum about just who. Golly, I hope he's secretly on, like, the new Dido record.

Be sure to catch the Jay Reatard mayhem wagon as it tears across North America, the UK, and Ireland this fall. UPDATE: A few of Jay's early November dates have been cancelled; have a look below.
