Beck Teams With Dad for Hollywood Bowl Gig
When Beck takes the stage at the historic Hollywood Bowl on September 20 for his much-ballyhooed performance with Spoon and MGMT, the sheer magnitude of the event won't be the only talking point. The gig will also mark the very first time Beck will perform alongside his father, arranger-conductor David Campbell. Campbell will spend the night conducting the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Strings as they accompany his son's performance.
Campbell, in addition to fathering at least one very funky dude, has played on some legendary records throughout his career-- perhaps you've heard of Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On or Carole King's Tapestry? He's also done arrangements for the likes of Paul McCartney, Cat Power, the Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, and Avril Lavigne. Oh, yeah, and he's written many of the string arrangements on Beck's records, too.
Beck, well, you know Beck. He'll be at Bumbershoot and down in San Francisco over the weekend before kicking off the next leg of his tour later next month.
