Sufjan Stevens Scores Natalie Portman-Directed Short

Sure, it might not be Oregon or whatever, but the guy's certainly got that "cinematic scope" thing down pat. According to the Playlist and confirmed by Asthmatic Kitty, "fey indie-rocker Sufjan Stevens" has composed a score for Eve, a 22-minute short film starring Lauren Bacall and Ben Gazzara and directed by actress Natalie Portman.

According to the Playlist, at a screening of Eve at the Venice Film Festival, Portman noted that though she's never met Mr. Stevens, she's a big fan, and personally contacted him to ask him to provide the music for the flick. Asthmatic Kitty confirms that the soundtrack consists of short, untitled instrumental piano pieces, and no commercial release is planned for the music or the short. So you're probably only going to be able to catch it at film festivals for now.

Sufjan, as you might've seen, recently took up with Norwegian shoegazers Serena-Maneesh for a festival gig. And, as you might've noticed, has has a whole lotta states left to write albums about. As for Portman, her next directorial effort is a section of New York, I Love You, due in theaters next year.
