Grizzly Bear, National, Gonzalez Play New York Events

New York Magazine, the esteemed weekly publication home to hard-hitting cultural reporting, New York City nightlife guides, and the occasional nude shot of Lindsay Lohan, is turning 40 this year. To celebrate, they're holding a little bash October 10 at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom, and you're invited!

Though rubbing elbows with a wide swath of the New York media sounds swell and all, the real draw's the entertainment portion of the evening, which will feature sets from Grizzly Bear and the National, with besuited comedy troupe Stella-- aka State veterans Michael Ian Black, David Wain, and Michael Showalter-- as your hosts. (Joke about Grizzly Bear and the National being music for 40-year-olds goes here.)

Before the candles are lit for the big 4-0, however, there's another hot little New York party in the works. This one's called "Campfire on the Canal," and it takes place September 28 at the Yard in Brooklyn, which, yes, happens to be located on the banks of the Gowanus Canal. The festivities will include a set from José González, humorous goings-on from the Upright Citizens Brigade, free beer, and, presumably, fire.
