Noise Rockers Team Up for Pro-Obama Site
Noise rockers are good for a lot of things, making noise and upsetting your cats chief among 'em. According to Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale and Brian Miller of Foot Village and Deathbombarc, however, one thing noise rockers aren't so good at is civic engagement.
Thus, the pair have teamed up to launch Noise for Obama, a brand new website intended to make some noise in support of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
In an e-mail, Miller writes, "We were both concerned that a lot of people, both audiences and artists, in the noise/underground music community don't vote and may not have considered what an important election year this is. So I started writing to other noise rockers and found that there are others that feel as strongly about Obama as we do."
Noise for Obama collects pro-Obama statements from such scene luminaries as Chippendale, Miller, the dudes in No Age, and Deerhoof's Greg Saunier, and encourages others to add their own statements. There's also a link to help you register to vote if you haven't already. You have done that, right?
But the electoral noise-collage doesn't stop there. On October 14, Deathbombarc will issue a new 12" split between Foot Village and Chippendale's Black Pus. The vinyl comes with a 16"x22" poster by Chippendale himself, and the proceeds go to the Obama campaign, naturally.
Miller will also bring copies of the 12" along with him on Foot Village's European tour. Waitaminute... Europeans can't vote for Obama! Much as they would appear to want to.
