Okkervil River Launch Tour, Help Fans Go Green
Oh, Okkervil River, you know just how to hit us where it hurts. The folk-rockers kick off their late summer/early fall tour tonight in Lawrence, Kansas, and they're "going green" for the jaunt by purchasing carbon offsets to make up for their role in mucking up the environment by traveling around.
But, as they remind us, "over 80% of a concert's CO2 footprint is from the fans' commute." As such, they're encouraging fans to ride bikes, carpool, or take public transit to the shows. They've even set up a website to help you locate carpools and organize bike rides, which you can access on your granola computer through the macraméd internet. Just remember, music fans: this climate crisis is 80% your fault.
Oh, we kid because we love! I know at least a couple Okkervil fans here in the P4K office who will be peddlin' on down to see Will and the boys bring the melodrama at their next opportunity to do so.
Note that Okkervil's newest one, The Stand Ins, is out now from Jagjaguwar. I hear it sounds especially nice coming out of a Hummer with the air conditioner on and the windows down.
