Yo La Tengo's Kaplan, Hubley Bike for MS Benefit
Ain't it cute when couples do things together? On October 5, young marrieds Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley of Jersey indie rock institution Yo La Tengo will hop on their bikes and pedal around Manhattan as part of the Bike MS New York City Traffic Free event, which raises money for multiple sclerosis research as well as programs to help those suffering from MS.
The pair plan to be on their bikes until they make it to the 30 mile mark, "unless," as Ira writes on the Yo La Tengo website, "one or both of us decides to go wild and make a dash through the Lincoln Tunnel and take a spin around New Jersey too. (That's what we did in 2005, Georgia topping out at 45 miles, me clocking in at 60.)"
A leisurely bike ride around New York sounds fun and all, but it is for a good cause, and that's where you come in. Both Ira and Georgia are seeking donations, which you can provide by clicking here for Ira and here for Georgia. At press time, both were about a third of the way to their $1,000 goal, but we can top that, can't we, people?
Yo La Tengo will rock it 'til the wheels come off on a spate of intercontinental tour dates they've got lined up for the fall. After late September stints at Champaign-Urbana, Illinois' Pygmalion Music Festival, ATP New York, and a benefit for the Neumann Leather Tenants Association in their hometown of Hoboken, New Jersey, they'll head to Taiwan and South Korea in October.
Oh, and They Shoot, We Score, Yo La Tengo's music for films compilation, is out now.

09-21 Monticello, NY - ATP New York
09-29 Hoboken, NJ - Maxwell's (Neumann Leather Tenants Association Benefit)
