Radiohead, Of Montreal, Decemberists on Charity Comp
Give. Listen. Help. Volume 5 is a double-disc, 27-song collection of tunes from a pretty impressive cast of characters, due at your local Urban Outfitters from October 15 of this year through January 31 of the next. Radiohead, Of Montreal, the Decemberists, Bloc Party, CSS, Ladytron, the Faint, Oasis, and many others turn in favorite tunes, live cuts, and remixes, while Rilo Kiley, the Little Ones, Garbage, and more offer up some previously unreleased material for the set's first disc.
And, hey, it's not just a righteous mixtape, but it's for a totally righteous cause too. Proceeds from the sale of Volume 5 go to the Pablove Foundation, created to support Pablo Castelaz, the 5-year-old son of Dangerbird Records' co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill. Pablo is undergoing treatment for cancer, and the foundation seeks to assist the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, where he's receiving care.
You'll note that the second disc of Volume 5 is populated by plenty of folks from Castelaz's Dangerbird Records, who came together to lend their support and a few jams to boot. Oh, and should you wish to know precisely where your money's going, you can check in on Pablo's progress on the adorably-named PABLOg. The whole affair's being put on by Urban Outfitters and Filter Magazine.
