"There's a need for clothes for cool moms," perennial coolest mom candidate Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth told The New York Times' Fashion & Style section recently about her decision to launch Mirror/Dash, a new clothing line she's started with friends Melinda Wansbrough and Jeffrey Monteiro [via Pedestrian.tv]. (SY nuts will notice that Mirror/Dash shares its name with a Gordon/Thurston Moore side project.)

The clothing line's first piece, "a military-style wool jacket inspired by Françoise Hardy," is available in an edition of 50. Kim and company are currently accepting orders for the coat through the Mirror/Dash website, where it's being modeled by a person who looks more like a cool older sister. Here, look:

Also, take note: the limited run of the jacket is in some ways a nod to Kim's other gig. "Some people make limited-edition records," she tells the Times. "We're making a limited-edition jacket." More designs are planned for release throughout the year. This isn't Kim's first foray into fashion, of course, what with her previous X-Girl line of snazzy garments.

On the musical side of things, Kim's got a date with Boredoms/Free Kitten drummer Yoshimi P-We, bassist Trevor Dunn, and laptop/harp duo Phantom Orchard September 26 in Saratoga, California. And Sonic Youth, who recently linked up with Matador, have a few dates in Italy next month. All their various goings-on are laid out below.
