Junior Senior Split, Pursue Solo Projects

One might even go so far as to say they've stopped the beat
Junior Senior Split, Pursue Solo Projects

Sad news for your dancing shoes, as the lads of Junior Senior have announced that they have parted ways after a decade of making music together. The Danish duo, comprised of Jesper "Junior" Mortensen and Jeppe "Senior" Laursen, reached the apex of their popularity back in 2003 with the stupidly infectious "Move Your Feet" from their debut LP D-D-Don't Stop the Beat. But the success of Junior Senior's sophomore effort Hey Hey My My Yo Yo, and its stuttering single "Can I Get Get Get", was hampered by the album's failure to find a U.S. label for two years after its initial European release. Laursen characterized the delay as "too long" in an interview with Pitchfork news in the spring of 2007.

In a rather sweet MySpace blog post this morning, the band said goodbye by profusely thanking their fans and running down some of their favorite moments together. "Performing on U.S. morning show 'Live with Regis and Kelly' while Roseanne Barr looked on screaming 'WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?'" is remembered fondly, and they note, "We have met so many amazing people around the world, experienced so many cool things, had so many crazy good times... so many we never even dared dream of. We are so happy we made you dance."

Both Junior and Senior have their own separate projects these days. Jesper Mortensen's I Scream Ice Cream released its first music via Kitsune/Tigerspring this past June, and he's also writing and recording for another project entitled The Little Sisters. Jeppe Laursen continues to DJ frequently and is working on his debut album, featuring the first single "Big Boy".
