Los Campesinos, No Age, Times New Viking Split Tour 7"
As if the forthcoming Los Campesinos!/No Age/Times New Viking triple-threat tour wasn't gonna shred enough faces on its own, things just keep getting gnarlier. The three bands have teamed up for a "super limited edition" 7" to celebrate the Shred Yr Face tour that'll be available exclusively from the Coalition group of indie record stores in the UK. What's more, there's a handful of in-stores in addition to the nighttime fun, including a truly epic run through the record racks in London on October 19. Let's begin, shall we?
Los Campesinos lend the 7" a Napoleon III remix of "Death to Los Campesinos!", of which Gareth Campesinos writes in a press release, "I'm generally not a fan of remixes, and this is easily my least favourite ever, because what Napoleon III's done here is make his rendition infinitely better than the original, subsequently rendering our version redundant. I wish we could play it like this live."
No Age offer up "Revolving Credit for Kitty", which began its life as the noise track lurking under "Sick People Are Safe" from their Deleted Art-issued EP. To close things out, TNV turn in a cover of "Anything Could Happen" by iconic New Zealand power-poppers the Clean, recorded at home on their boombox. (It's also slated to appear on the next Yeti magazine compilation.) "The Clean are our Beatles and everyone should try to find out about them, please," they write in a press release. Right you are.
As for the in-stores, the big news comes October 19, when all three bands play a trio of shops around London. They'll hit Pure Groove at 3 p.m., Beyond Retro at 5 p.m., and Rough Trade East at 7 p.m., and each band has an in-store of their own to attend to throughout the tour's span. Those you'll find snuck in each band's itineraries, listed down below.
But wait! Somehow, there's more! Seattle artist Carlos Ruiz has designed both a t-shirt and a limited edition silkscreened poster for the Shred Yr Face jaunt, both of which will be available at the shows and at Coalition stores. Sometimes I wish I was British. This is one of those times.
As we mentioned last week, Los Campesinos! have thrown an awful lot at the release of We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed, which is due October 27 in the UK from Wichita and November 11 in North America from Arts & Crafts. Times New Viking have that Stay Awake 7" dropping October 21 from Matador, and both they and No Age have added a few shows since our last report.
It's nice when good bands do lots of things, innit?
