John Cale Gets Fiery Furnaces, Lanegan for Nico Tribute

This year marked the 20th anniversary of Nico's untimely passing, which means it's as good a time as any for a handful of musician friends and fans to come together and commemorate the life and work of the beloved singer and Velvet Underground associate.

Nico's onetime VU bandmate and frequent collaborator John Cale has assembled just such a gathering for "Life Along the Borderline: A Tribute to Nico", which hits London's Royal Festival Hall on Saturday, October 11.

The Fiery Furnaces, Mark Lanegan (The Gutter Twins, Screaming Trees), Peter Murphy (Bauhaus), James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers), Cale collaborator Nick Franglen (Lemon Jelly), and other as-yet-unannounced guests will join Cale in "re-imagining Nico's songs" for the special performance.

Those fixing for a snapshot of Nico in her day are encouraged to check out "Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms" at the nearby Hayward Gallery. The exhibition showcases a bunch of Warhol's work-- including films Chelsea Girls and The Velvet Underground and Nico, both featuring Nico-- and runs from October 7 to January 18, 2009.
