Vampire Weekend Obama Show Canceled

Vampire Weekend Obama Show Canceled

Well, that just sucks. The Carnegie Mellon University chapter of Students for Barack Obama have been forced to cancel an event in Pittsburgh this Saturday (October 4), the very same event Obama supporters Vampire Weekend were scheduled to play. With no young politicos to serenade with their arsenal of toe-tappers, the band will steer clear of Pittsburgh over the weekend, making their next show an appearance at the Iceland Airwaves Festival in Reykjavik later this month.

Still, the boys of Vampire Weekend urge one and all to make sure they're properly registered and ready to go for November 4, especially since registration deadlines are coming up fast all over the place. In a post on the band's MySpace blog, somebody notes "I had an unpleasant and Kafkaesque (no, really!) experience during the primaries due to my failure to check on my status." Sounds like a great idea for a song, doesn't it?

Vampire Weekend's throwdown for the Illinois Senator might not be going forth, but that don't stop the Ba-rock this weekend and beyond. Bruce Springsteen's doing a few shows for Obama, Jay-Z's doing a pair, indie rockers aplenty are teaming up in Brooklyn next week, My Morning Jacket's Jim James hits Chicago October 8, and the National and the Breeders will make some noise-- though not as much as this lot-- for the candidate in Cincinnati later this month.
