The Beatles, Coming to a Video Game Console Near You

Video game makers MTV Games and Harmonix-- aka the people behind "Rock Band"-- announced today that they have formed a partnership with Apple Corps Ltd. to bring the music of the Beatles to Xboxes the world over. That's right-- just a few taps on that fake drum pad, and you're as good as Ringo! (We kid because we love.)

The parties are in the process of developing a new game that will serve as "an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of the Beatles," according to a press release.
It's unclear right now if the game will be a new version of "Rock Band" or something else entirely, but we'll find out when it hits shelves next year. UPDATE: According to Billboard.com, it's not a new version of "Rock Band", but something else entirely.

This is a big deal because it's the first time the Beatles have allowed their tunes to be used in an interactive game. Also, any time you get Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, Olivia Harrison, and Giles Martin (son of George Martin) working together on something, it's a big deal.

Requisite fawning quotes from the press release:

Paul McCartney: "The project is a fun idea which broadens the appeal of the Beatles and their music. I like people having the opportunity to get to know the music from the inside out."

Ringo Starr: "It gives me great pleasure to be part of the Beatles/Apple and Harmonix/Rock Band partnership. The Beatles continue to evolve with the passing of time and how wonderful that the Beatles'
legacy will find its natural progression into the 21st century through the computerized world we live in. Let the games commence."

Yoko Ono Lennon: "It's cool. I love it and hope it will keep inspiring and encouraging the young generation for many decades."

Olivia Harrison: "People are having so much fun playing Rock Band. Combined with the Beatles tracks, it is a great way to either listen or participate. If you like the music, it doesn't take much persuasion to get you to play."
