Deerhoof, Of Montreal, Cut Copy Remix Maroon 5

"I've always found it really interesting that a group of people looking at the same painting can all see different things," art enthusiast/Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine tells Billboard.com. Whatever you may take from Mr. Levine kinda sorta equating "Makes Me Wonder" with "Guernica", you can almost see his point when you run down the list of remixers he and Maroon 5 have lined up for Call & Response, due December 9 from A&M Octone.
The people looking at this particular canvas? They could not be any more different, from themselves and (especially) from the source material. For starters, Call & Response will feature remixes of Maroon 5 cuts from Deerhoof (Deerhoof?!) and Of Montreal (Of Montreal!?). And there are plenty more slightly less likely-- but still totally strange-- choices, like Cut Copy, ?uestlove of the Roots, the Cool Kids, Just Blaze, a dude from Phantom Planet, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest.
Sure, there's remixes from Pharrell, Tiësto, Mark Ronson, and Paul Oakenfold, too, but those guys would remix Lawrence Welk if there was a paycheck in it. But I mean, Deerhoof! Of Montreal! Maroon 5! One of these things is not as good aslike the other!
Alas, Kanye West-- the only person, to our knowledge, to have found a way to make Mr. Levine's bleating better than tolerable-- is not participating.
