J Dilla's Little Bro Raps Over Dilla Beats on Debut LP
There's been no shortage of posthumous releases directly from and otherwise related to the late James "J Dilla" Yancey recently, but the newest one is especially close to home, as in Dilla's childhood home. The record is called Yancey Boys, and it is the debut album from John "Illa J" Yancey, Dilla's younger brother by 12 years.
Yancey Boys features Illa's rhymes over a set of previously unearthed Dilla beats from the period of time when the latter was working on the Pharcyde's Labcabincalifornia. Guests on the record include Guilty Simpson, Debit Nova, and Affion Crockett. The Guilty Simpson track is available to check out below, as is the album's cover.
Delicious Vinyl will release Yancey Boys tomorrow (November 4), and Illa J has a trio of shows this month to support the album.
