Ted Leo, Andrew W.K. Team for Indie Rock Karaoke
On a list of The Indie Rock Dudes We'd Most Like to Kick Back With, Ted Leo and Andrew W.K. pretty much come up tops, which makes New York magazine's third installment of "Indie Rock Karaoke" a spectacle not to be missed.
W.K. will host as Leo and his Pharmacists follow in the illustrious footsteps of the Thermals and Of Montreal, serving as a top-notch backing band for your karaoke whims. The "New York by New York" event goes down December 3 at Studio B in Brooklyn, and will also feature a full set from Leo and the Rx gang and a charity raffle benefitting New York Cares. Complimentary vodka will be on hand to ensure maximum hilarity ensues.
With a run of scrapped would-be dates behind him, Ted Leo has a spate of solo shows following up his karaoke appearance. He's also the star of the concert film Dirty Old Town, which is Pitchfork.tv's current "One Week Only" feature; catch that while you can.
Andrew W.K., meanwhile, has a few dates of his own on the way, including an NYC appearance this weekend with a string quartet. He'll treat his (many) Japanese fans to a trio of Universal Music International releases on November 26: a greatest hits collection called The Very Best So Far, a set of W.K. English-language renditions of J-pop hits(!!) entitled The Japan Covers, and a two-disc package bundling both releases under the banner Premium Collection. Did we mention Andrew W.K. covering J-pop?? Oh lawdy.
