A.C. Newman Covers a-ha's "Take on Me" for Starbucks

Maybe his new labelmates Sonic Youth told him about their "free biscotti for life" cards, and he just couldn't resist. A.C. Newman, New Pornographers frontman and solo artist, will offer up his, er, take on a-ha's "Awesome 80s Dance Mix" staple (and totes great song) "Take on Me" for a Starbucks Valentine's Day-themed compilation. No word on any more release details, though one assumes as soon as the coffee cups go all seasonal red, you can cop Carl's cover and more up by the counter.

According to Sound Bites, Newman announced at a recent show that he submitted two covers to Starbucks for their VD comp: "Take on Me" and the Go-Betweens' "Love Goes On!". Starbucks only took the a-ha song.

Newman's got a new collection of his own tunes, Get Guilty, coming your way January 20 from Matador. Though the dates have yet to emerge, he plans to get back on the road in February and stay there through the summer, on the wings of latte after delicious latte.
